Arnold Newman made environmental portraits famous with his images of past Presidents, movie stars and other celebrities.
In 1980 while I was studying photography at Randolph Technical College in Asheboro, the students had to do a report on photographers who contributed greatly to photography. Tom Jordan and I were assigned Arnold Newman. After a few calls to Arnold Newman he agreed to an interview with him in New York. We spent several hours with him in his studio and residence. What amazed me more than anything was that his residence was full of photographs, but they were all by other photographers. None were of his own images. His love for photography could easily be seen. I will always remember the day with Arnold Newman. He will be greatly missed in the photography world. I made this image in his studio.

For more images visit:
www.CollectiblePhotography.com

Hummingbird With Mouth Open By Albert Cardwell

I have photographed Hummingbirds for years. I knew the chances of seeing a deer that late was rare. So I used most of my film photographing horses, sunrises or anything that moved. The moment that I ran out of film this deer got spooked and took off running in front of me. I just whistled at the deer and it stopped and turned around. I quickly reloaded film and took this image as it was standing up on it's back legs. It posed for about 3 seconds and then it took off. Luckily I got the shot. The deer had white spots all over it. >www.CollectiblePhotography.com

Piggy Back Grasshoppers by Albert Cardwell

These two grasshoppers were found Piggy Back in a local garden near Stoneville, NC. I setup my tripod and camera and waited for hours and never saw anything. I took my camera and part of my equipment back to my vehicle and returned for my tripod. When I got back the owl was starring right at me without a camera in sight. I quickly went back and got my camera. It had gotten so dark that I barely could see to focus. I used a flash with a fresnel lens that extended the flash range. I'm sure it saw white dots for awhile. There was a larger one in the woods behind me hooting the entire time that I was photographing this one. I wasn't sure if this was a female owl or just a young one. >www.CollectiblePhotography.com

Flooded Building By Albert Cardwell

Have you ever seen a boat garage?
